You may have noticed that after installing many of your favorite applications, your computer will start to slow down when initially turning on. This can sometimes be caused by applications automatically loading whenever you start or log into Windows. This article will explain how to stop programs from starting automatically in Windows 8 and 8.1.
1. Right Click on the Task Bar and choose Task Manager or press Ctrl + Alt + Del and choose Task Manager
2. Locate the application(s) that you wish to stop from starting automatically and choose Disable
You will notice that there is a Startup Impact column that will tell you how resource intensive a particular application is during startup. If you do not need these programs to start automatically, it is recommended to start there, then work your way down to the less intense applications.
These options will differ based on programs you have installed, programs you actually want to have start when Windows loads, and programs that should start when Windows loads. For example, it would make sense to have your installed Anti-Virus software start automatically, but you may not want iTunes to be running in the background every time you start your computer. If you aren’t sure about a specific program, you can always comment below or do some research.
