While Microsoft has implemented many new features to Windows 10, they seem to have forgotten about the ability to easily set different desktop backgrounds on each of your displays in a multi-monitor setup. Fortunately, there is still a way to do this, just not from the location you would think (Personalization from right clicking the desktop, or from control panel.)
Method 1
With the two (or more) images you wish to use as backgrounds in the same File Explorer folder:
- Highlight all of the images
- Right Click the image you want on the primary display
- Click Set as desktop background
Note: Using this method will automatically swap the images between the displays every 30 minutes
Method 2
- Open the Run dialogue box by pressing Win + R on your keyboard
- Enter control /name Microsoft.Personalization /page pageWallpaper and click OK
- Locate the images you would like to use, then right click and choose the monitor on which you want the image to be shown.
Useful Trick
If you change your desktop backgrounds frequently, you can easily create a shortcut for Method 2 on your desktop.
- Right Click the empty space on your desktop
- Choose New > Shortcut
- For the location, type control /name Microsoft.Personalization /page pageWallpaper and click Next
- Enter a name for the shortcut, for example Change Wallpaper and click Finish
Now you have a shortcut to make changes to your wallpaper without having to look up the code above.
